Victorian Election: Will pandemic affect labor?

Daniel Andrews will lead Labor in the State election this November. He is projected to lead the party to its third election win in a row. He first won in 2014 and then 2018. Polls show that Labor is still expected to win but by less than the 2018 election. How much does covid lockdowns and restrictions have to do with this?

The answer; probably not as much as The Coalition hoped. While Labor is projected to lose seats. They will probably still have a majority. Now obviously this is speculation and polls can't be fully trusted.

And while Labor is expected to still win the election this isn't certain. And lockdowns and restrictions have frustrated many Victorians.

The Liberals are hoping to take seats in Melbourne's west.

The Seat of Northcote

The Victorian election is drawing ever closer. In this article we look at previous election results in the State seat of Northcote, Federal seat of Cooper and the former Federal seat of Batman.

The Greens have been battling against Labor in the federal seat of Cooper for over a decade. Looking at the graph below which shows results up to the 2019 Federal election. Show a dramatic fall in the Greens' vote.

Then if you look at the State seat of Northcote the Greens won the seat briefly after a 2017 by-election with Lidia Thorpe (now a Senator for Victoria) winning. The Greens then lost the seat in the 2018 election against current MP Kat Theophanous. The Greens' drop in votes around 2018/2019 has been attributed by many, to conflict within the party.

Looking at the results from the 2022 Federal election the Greens seem to be back on track, picking up 3 lower house seats in Queensland, going from 1 lower house seat to 4. In the seat of Cooper The gap between Labor and The Greens tightened.

The seat of Northcote is more progressive than Cooper, Meaning The Greens look to have a definite chance this election, of course we will get a better picture closer to November 26.
